Though that marching band and twirling girls were all heated up, I was still really cold under my Anne Klein double lined trench coat!  Today, Saturday 14 Jan, is the opening to a week-long celebration starting next week in Eatonville Florida. The 10-block walk to reach the heart of Zora Neale Hurston’s hometown did not help me to warm up (actually, I’m still chilled).
So, all of you Michiganders thinking of heading to Florida for fun in the sun, wait a week or so before coming to Orlando.  I hope it warms up before I leave!

Rest Fully

The Odu Ifa advises “When we arrive at a cool place, Let us rest fully.”
So have I been doing in the shade of the palms and the warmth of the sun in Florida.
While Wednesday was filled with
fun at Universal Studios (lunched at the Hard Rock Cafe), today was spent in pursuit of my African American culture.  Visited the Hannibal Square Heritage Center in Winter Park and went on to the ‘Wells Built Hotel Museum‘ in downtown Orlando whose hours were M-F until 5:00pm. But they were closed. We peered through the windows and their displays looked very interesting. But I suppose you should call before going.

Work, Death, and Sickness – Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy.
You should check out this book. I’ve been reading it on my Android phone using Aldiko.

The End of a Season

“The End of a Season“ was Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr’s sermon top this morning at New Covenant Baptist Church of Orlando this morning.  But, the sub-theme could very well have been ‘From Slavery to Freedom.“   He opened with Deu 34:1-6 but backed up to 32:48-51 to drive his point home.  I had been missing him each time he came to Michigan, but had the opportunity of seeing and hearing him this morning in Florida!

Just before Christmas, I sat down and wrote the following

If you want to stay in touch with me and read about all the activities, people, places and events in which I am involved, subscribe to this blog and you will receive an update each time I post a journal entry here.

I was going to create a new one just for sharing my experiences during my stay, but in keeping with the spirit of my life and work, Asaviour’s Fire Place seemed like it was more appropriate than ever.

So, keep me in your positive thoughts and prayers.  I take you with me on this exquisite journey back Home to Africa.

Well now, the day after Christmas, things are quite different.  My first stop on this journey was to be Liberia, W. Africa.  Our contacts in the country have advised that we not travel at this time.  So, I will be here a little while longer.  As soon as I calm down, I will share some of the experiences leading up to my staying home.

In the meantime, have a great week and Happy Kwanzaa!
